After around 500 women applied for the Western Bulldogs’ rookie try-out day, which was held last week, the Melbourne Football Club is now to hold its own talent search.
From 6:30pm on Wednesday evening, June 28 at AAMI Park, the Demons will be putting a number of AFLW hopefuls through their paces.
To be eligible, athletes of all sporting codes must be aged 17 and over, and will need to register by 8pm (AEST) on Wednesday, June 21.
Those invited to take part in the talent search day will be notified by the Demons on Friday, June 23.
Those signed as rookies, or drafted by the Dees in October, will be playing alongside the likes of Daisy Pearce, Lily Mithen, Elise O’Dea, Karen Paxman and Melissa Hickey in the 2018 AFLW season.
Melbourne finished third in the inaugural AFLW season, the best placed of all the Victorian clubs.
During the off-season, the Demons signed the St Kilda Sharks’ Kate Hore as the first of their three rookies, while Ashleigh Guest (GWS) and Bianca Jakobsson (Carlton) were acquired through trades.
AFLW clubs are free to sign up to three rookies at any stage, while nominations for the next AFL Women’s draft are due to open in September, with the draft to take place in mid-October.
