With the season now in full swing, both South Australian divisions saw some highly competitive footy as well as a few lopsided encounters.
West Adelaide continued its good start to the season with its second win claimed against reigning premiers Greenacres in a close contest. Despite some inaccurate kicking from both teams, the Bloods were able to pull away in the final quarter for a relatively comfortable win despite clinging onto a three-point lead at the final change. Lisa Kennedy was the standout while Lisa Miceli and Rebecca Marshall played a major part in the Bloods’ win coming off the bye.
Morphettville Park stretched its lead at the top of the ladder by winning for a third consecutive week, this time running away in style by 79 points against Ingle Farm. While the Bulldogs could only manage the one goal through Nicole Turner, the Roos were fueled by a best-on-ground performance by Lexia Edwards with four goals. Stacey Huddleston and Tayla Gordon each kicked three goals while Deni Varnhagen continued her bright start to the season in her two games played so far.
Central District sat on the sidelines this week due to the bye and will hope to claim their first win of the season against Ingle Farm next weekend.
Salisbury was all too happy to claim a 14-point win over Modbury in an impressive four-quarter display from both teams. Despite the inaccurate kicking from both teams with 18 of the 24 registered scores being behinds, Salisbury’s four more registered scores were enough to secure the win.
The unfortunate Pooraka girls continued their development the hard way by experiencing a 107-point thumping by Adelaide University. The Blacks had their way with the inexperienced Bulls as Julie Power bagged a total of eight goals and the prominant Tiffany Lee impressed for the third week in a row. Sheron Ford was outstanding in her first game of the year, kicking three goals herself.
Morphettville Park sat out with the bye but will be hoping to stamp their authority on the competition as they face Salisbury, the only other team without a loss.
